SOUND OF MUSIC | AUDITIONS

Audition Date

In-person auditions will take place via time slots at Church of the Messiah’s Fellowship Hall location (1001 Dekalb Pike, Lower Gwynedd) on Sunday August 27, 2023 1:30-2:30 (STUDENTS) and 3:00-6:00 (ADULTS). See above to register for a time slot.

AUDITIONS ARE CLOSED TO VISITORS (but there is a waiting area for adults to sit while their younger children audition. Please do not drop them off.).

 

Callbacks

The callbacks take place if necessary and will be by invitation only. Callbacks will take place on the evening of Wednesday August 30, 2023 6:00-9:30 also at Church of the Messiah’s Fellowship Hall location.

 

Performances & Rehearsals

Performances will take place at Church of the Messiah’s Fellowship Hall on the weekend of November Friday the 17 at 7:00 and Saturday the 18 at 1:30 and 7:00, 2023.

[Please kindly reserve Sunday the 19th at 7:00 pm in case tickets are selling well and we need to add a performance. If not, we will use this time to strike.]

The Read-Through will take place on the evening of Saturday September 9th and rehearsals continue on Saturday afternoons (1:00-5) and Monday and Wednesday evenings (6-9:30 PM). Please be sure to list all your personal schedule conflicts on your audition form. Our call schedule will be created based on conflicts given.

 

ADULT Audition Format

For the initial audition, please prepare a 32-measure cutting or 90 seconds from the show [FOUND HERE] with track name and time count clearly marked for our stage manager and a monologue of your choice found [HERE]. 

 

VIRTUAL AUDITION - If you are not available for the initial in-person auditions, or auditioning in person for the first time may be anxiety inducing, you may submit the following via flipgrid: 

  • A singing audition video [LINK] - prepare a 32-measure cutting or 90 seconds from the show.

Deadline for video submissions is midnight Friday August 25, 2023.

 

STUDENT Audition Format 

For any STUDENTS still in school interested in playing Friedrich (14), Louisa (13), Kurt (10), Brigitta (9), Marta (7), and Gretl (6) (all ages listed are "stage age.") and Alpine Chorus we are asking all to prepare a cutting from “Do Re Mi” found here [LINK] and a monologue of your choice found [HERE]. You will be singing in groups of 3-5 during the audition, NOT solo.

Character Descriptions

All roles are open, and Harmony Hearts warmly encourages performers to submit for any role regardless of type, gender, ability, race, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original Broadway cast. Do NOT watch the movie. We are not looking to cast "Jane Doe" playing Julie Andrews playing Maria von Trapp. Harmony Hearts is an inclusive company. As examples: Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition and will be considered for any and all roles. Roles will be played as the gender written. Actors are encouraged to audition for the roles with which they comfortably identify. ​We are seeking to cast the following roles [LINK].

 

COVID Precautions

Harmony Hearts is a mask optional location for rehearsals and we do not require proof of vaccine status nor testing. Masks are not able to be worn during tech rehearsals and performances. 

 

Compensation

*This is a Non-Equity Production for a non-profit, community-based theater performed on a volunteer basis.
